PRIV: Privacy Research In Vision
June 22, 2006, NYC, In conjunction with IEEE CVPR 2006

Biometric systems, intelligent surveillance systems, intelligent traffic systems and data-mining pattern recognition systems can have significant societal benefit through improved security and safety. Yet they also have significant potential to invade the privacy of individuals, and are often portrayed as the enabler for a growth of an Orwellian Big Brother. This workshop addresses privacy issues that arise within the scope of traditional CVPR topics, with an emphasis on techniques for improving privacy protection in vision systems.

This is unique workshop unlike any previous CVPR/IEEE addressing an important interdiciplinary issue. With CVPR in NYC, this workshop should attract some people that would not usually attend CVPR as well as providing a unique event for students to gain a different perspective on the impact/use of vision systems and how our own technical abilities can help address/mitigate the problems our technology is causing.
